Baltimore SmartCEO Celebrated 40 Top Female CEOs and Executives at the 2016 Brava Awards

Traci L. Kodeck
CEO

HealthCare Access Maryland

Traci L. Kodeck began her tenure at HealthCare Access Maryland (HCAM) in 2000 as an ombudsman perinatal liaison, where her primary function was to connect pregnant and postpartum women to care, assist with navigating the healthcare system and provide connection to long-term supportive services. This “boots-on-the-ground” foundation allowed her to identify the gaps in services for vulnerable populations. “I was afforded the opportunity for internal growth and, over the next several years, as the agency grew, I was integral in developing new public health programs and services,” says Kodeck.

Quick Tip: “You really aren’t sure what strength and determination you have until you must dig deep inside yourself.”

In 2006, as chief of programs, Kodeck facilitated development of programs to address multiple health-related issues. Under her programmatic leadership, HCAM has expanded from 40 to 200 staff members.

Kodeck served two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in a small village in St. Lucia and provided education to parents with children under the age of 5 who could not afford to send them to daycare. “This opportunity taught me the true meaning of giving back,” she says.

(After deadline for this issue, Kodeck was promoted to CEO.)
