Connector

Maryland Health Connection is the state-based health insurance marketplace where Maryland residents can compare, shop for, and enroll in affordable health coverage. Currently, the insurance affordability programs available through the Maryland Health Connection include Medicaid and two types of financial assistance applicable to Qualified Health Plans (advance premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions).

At HealthCare Access Maryland (HCAM), the Connector Program provides enrollment assistance and outreach services on behalf of the Maryland Health Connection in the Central Region (Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel County) and the Modified Service Area (Howard County, Carrol County, and Frederick County).

Formally, HCAM is known as the Connector Entity for these two regions. As a Connector Entity, we staff state-certified navigators, which is a type of consumer assistance worker trained to help clients navigate the Maryland Health Connection application process.

We also staff outreach specialists who are responsible for raising awareness about the Maryland Health Connection and serving as a resource in communities with historically high rates of uninsured.
