Two New Members Elected to HCAM’s Board of Directors

This December, HealthCare Access Maryland welcomes two new members to the Board of Directors. The two newest additions to our now 21-person Board of Directors team, Lisa Kemp, MBA, CPA, and Peter Wertheimer, will each serve a three-year term. Lisa and Peter bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in finance and human resources, respectively. HealthCare Access Maryland’s CEO, Traci Kodeck, shared the following, “HCAM celebrates the onboarding of Lisa Kemp and Peter Wertheimer to our Board of Directors. Their excitement to join our mission is palpable and we are honored to have their experience and strategic direction as leaders.”

Lisa Kemp, MBA, CPAa certified public accountant (CPA), has more than 25 years of experience leading finance and operations at large institutions of higher education and in health care. Most recently she was the Senior Vice President Administration and Finance, Chief Financial Officer for the University of Maryland Global Campus where she served on the Executive leadership team and was responsible for all areas of administration and finance. Prior to this she was the Vice President Finance at George Mason University. Her past responsibilities have included Executive Vice President, CFO of Trident University International, President and CFO of Cogswell Polytechnical Institute, and Senior Vice President, CFO, and Officer for American Public University System. Before transitioning into higher education, Ms. Kemp served as Baltimore-based Regional Director Operations for HCR/Manor Care, where she was responsible for finance and operations for seven skilled nursing facilities. Earlier, Ms. Kemp served with the public accounting firm of Wolpoff & Company, LLP, specializing in health care, where she advanced to management prior to assuming the role of Controller for one of the firm’s largest health care clients. 

“As a recent graduate from Leadership Maryland Class of ’21 and a long-time resident ofFrederick County, I am so pleased to further HCAM’s mission in my community… this is an exciting, challenging, and transformational time for both education and healthcare! I have spent most of my career serving the underserved, promoting equitable access, and I couldn’t be more pleased to do that with HCAM whose purpose is to provide healthcare solutions which address such a broad spectrum of societal issues.”

Peter Wertheimer’s background is in management consulting, specifically in the human resources areas of executive compensation and board governance. Much of his time is spent with large tax-exempt healthcare organizations, but he works with nonprofits of all shapes and sizes, as well as publicly traded and privately held for-profit corporations. Most recently, Peter was an associate principal in Korn Ferry’s healthcare executive pay and governance practice, part of the Total Rewards consulting arm of the firm. Prior to this, Peter was a consultant at Yaffe & Company, Inc. where he focused on executive compensation and governance for small- to mid-market healthcare and higher education organizations. He has more than a decade of experience including advising clients on the recruitment, engagement, retention and retirement of senior leadership and the navigation of the competitive and regulatory landscapes related to talent and compensation. Peter holds an MBA from the Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School and a Bachelor of Science from Towson University. A Baltimore native, he is a member of Open Society Institute – Baltimore’s Leadership Council and has a strong sense of commitment to nonprofits that seek to improve the quality of life for those in Maryland.
