As National Recovery Month reminds us of the power of resilience and support, we’re honored to feature Paulette Shelton, a State Care Coordinator whose dedication helps individuals rebuild their lives every day. With 5 years of experience in the field, including the past 1-2 years at HCAM, she shows her commitment to making recovery possible every single day.
With a background in case management and a deep personal connection to recovery work, Paulette plays a vital role in supporting individuals on their journey toward stability and independence. Before joining HCAM, Paulette worked as a case manager, where she often referred clients to HCAM during discharge planning. “HCAM was always that one resource that was available to my clients,” she recalls. When the opportunity came to join the RCS team, she felt confident in her decision. “I felt like I knew what to expect.”

In her role, Paulette is focused on helping individuals re-enter society after recovery. She assists clients in obtaining vital documents, securing employment, and finding long-term housing — essential steps toward rebuilding a stable life. Her work ensures that recovery isn’t just about treatment, but about creating lasting support systems and self-sufficiency.
Recovery isn’t linear, and Paulette emphasizes the importance of recognizing it as an ongoing process. “I wish that more people understood that this is a lifelong journey,” she says. Her perspective highlights how the need for sustained support, empathy, and patience lasts beyond treatment.
Her passion for the field is rooted in a pivotal moment early in her career. “When I worked at my first crisis job, I realized this was the right fit for me because I didn’t know how many people dealt with mental health and drug addiction — and how they’re tied together,” she shares. This work also gave her insight into challenges her own family had faced, deepening her commitment to advocacy and care.
We are proud to have Paulette on our team and grateful for the compassion and determination she brings to her work. Her impact is felt not only by the clients she supports, but by all of us at HCAM who are inspired by her dedication to lifelong recovery.
Thank you, Paulette!
