Employee Spotlight: Walter Garrett, Administrative Coordinator

At HCAM, we believe that the heart of our work lies in the passion and commitment of our team. Walter Garrett, Administrative Coordinator with our RCS team, exemplifies this every day. With five years of experience in the field, and more than five here at HCAM, Walter brings a thoughtful, compassionate approach to supporting individuals in recovery and building meaningful connections that truly matter.

Walter’s journey to joining the RCS team was inspired by a shared sense of purpose and encouragement from leadership. “Management encouraged me to apply for the position. I wanted to make a difference by the work that I was doing within the department. I realized with my work that I would change people and clients’ lives for the better. These ideals were the driving force that led me to be a part of this great work that we are doing within the RCS department,” he shared.

As Administrative Coordinator, Walter serves as a vital link between clients and providers, ensuring that individuals seeking support are connected to the resources they need. “I am a conduit in which I act as a bridge to help clients that are seeking services through our program in whatever capacity it may be.” His behind-the-scenes coordination plays a crucial role in ensuring continuity of care and positive outcomes for the individuals we serve.

Walter is passionate about spreading awareness of the realities of recovery and the importance of patience throughout the process. “I wish that more people would realize that it is a process and it takes time. Recovery does not happen overnight. It takes a great deal of patience, temperament, and restraint to be successful in leading sobriety for our clients that come through our program.” His thoughtful approach reminds us all that recovery is deeply personal, and no two paths are the same.

When asked when he knew this was the right path for him, Walter credits the mentorship and guidance of several incredible leaders. “I realized this was the right fit for me when I had the honor of working under Ms. Medley, Ms. Rappaport, and Ms. Brookshire. All three of those supervisors helped to engender in me the will to want to take my role very seriously,” he reflects. “These women gave me the skills to want to achieve more and have a more active and sound role within our department. Their guidance and help were immeasurable in helping me fulfill my responsibilities.”

Walter’s dedication, empathy, and unwavering commitment to service continue to make a profound impact at HCAM and in the lives of those we serve. We look forward to seeing his continued growth and contributions.

Thank you, Walter. We are so grateful to have you at HCAM!
